What is missing in life that gives us this insatiable desire to grow and improve?
Recently, I have been sensing something is missing, as if I am starving for growth, improvement, or deeper learning. I cannot seem to put my finger on what it is. I have missed a couple of professional conferences, could that be it? Have I lost my way or my purpose?
I know I have been very focused on work the last few years. Taking on the leadership role for the entire school district was a very big step for me. It all happened so quickly. I would say I was amazed that this happened and the amount of growth that occurred should have satisfied my growth desires. For some reason I am not content, and I do not know why.
We experience occurrences of needing something to achieve or learn something new. It seems to be a never-ending search. It is an insatiable fixation that we must satisfy, at least it is for me lately. We must set ourselves up for success. A procedure or process to discover our needs, and a location to intentionally seek these answers.
Create Your List. Intentionally create a list of thoughts that you have surrounding you goals or dreams. If possible, list steps you feel will help you achieve these goals. You will quickly discover some ideas will have more steps for you to explore.
Let It Simmer. After you have written down all your thoughts and possible steps, put it away and give yourself some time to process. Return to your list and evaluate each item. Many times, when we write our thoughts are flowing at a high rate. We get as much information down as we can. It is always a good idea to review this list and add or delete things.
Start Here. Now you have your ideas down and some will stand out more than others. Generally, the goal with the most action steps is your starting point. Established steps are your map to this goal. I suggest you choose one goal to put your whole focus on, and two if you are ambitious. Starting with one goal will allow you to really put your energy to work.
Go Get It! Start whatever process you need to attack this goal. Go after it with all you can. Seek help if you need to but put all your energy on this task. Once you have gotten to where you want with this goal, it is time to revisit your list.
I may be simplifying this process, but I believe we over think at times. We overanalyze to the point we do not act. When we fail to act, we feel lost or our purpose is not established. So, go get your goals.
