Status Check

What is the status of your goals?

He shoots, he scores…GOAL!!! I must admit, I forget to review the goals I have set for myself and/or the organization I work in. Are you reviewing the status of your goals, and have you acknowledged the success you have made along the way? I have spoke in previous posts about the importance of acknowledging our wins, as it relates to goals we have set. I have discovered recently, that when great things are happening, I lose sight how big the goal was in the first place. It is especially difficult when the big goal in over a long period of time. We get so wrapped up in the processes and large undertakings that we miss seeing ourselves cross the finish line. Let us dive into goals once more!

We must look again at the best way to create goals, even if it is only a reminder. What part of your life does your goal relate to? I have six areas of my life, where I have chosen at least one focus goal for each area. For the best results, we should list specific areas of our lives and note how we want to grow in each area. To make the process more efficient, I suggest only one goal for each area of your life and try to keep the areas narrowed down to only five. Maybe, these areas could be our family, career, health, spirituality, and personal growth. These are only a few examples and could be a starting point for anyone. Some of the goals you set may be priority goals that are more important than others. It is not always easy to set goals. Sometimes we are unsure what we want so we should start small at first. If five life-areas are too much, pick only two and put all your focus there. The answers will come, just give yourself some time to think and be patient.

Plan in executing the goals you set is equally important. As we consider specific goals, we should think of the end in mind. What are we hoping to feel like or accomplish once we have met this goal? We hope to create a vision in our minds as to how our life and maybe others’ lives have improved because we met our goal. It is especially helpful to formulate a deadline for each goal. What are some potential traps or mistakes we could make? We must consider everything. We must assure ourselves that we have all the tools we need to go after our goals. If we feel we are missing pieces in the process, how are we going to learn what is needed to accomplish our goals? Reminder: determine the life-areas, what is the goal for each area, create the vision you see for the end, and what are things we are not clear on. Finally create the plan for executing our goals with a specific deadline. A well thought out plan will ensure your success in accomplishment of goals.

So, imagine for a minute you have met your goal, or even several of your goals. Now what? As we meet goals we then need to evolve and adapt. How are your goals changing and becoming more refined or more specific? This is where you could look at your goals in the long-term. Consider how a goal may evolve over the course of a year, 3-5 years, or even 10 years. Remember goals are a learning process. As we grow in our learning we evolve and develop into better humans.

What goals or milestones are you celebrating in your life?

What areas of life need your focus?

Are your goals specific enough and have deadlines?

Are you reviewing your goals and considering adapting them with a long-term plan?

Look at how far you have come with the goals you set. You made it and accomplished something great! Celebrate what you learned and how you have grown. After the celebration, investigate your future, what is next? Are your goals still appropriate or are you ready for the next step, if so, go get it! Thank you so much for checking out my post this week. I hope you have a great week, crossing off goals on your list. Please leave your thoughts and comments, they are greatly appreciated.
