Seeing Past The Frustrations

How do we look beyond our frustrations to see the big picture?

In the new year, inevitably we will wonder if we are wasting our time chasing goals and engaging in the tasks we have committed to. I experience this feeling of frustration at times, as we all do. To be honest, I get frustrated with this blog and the lack of engagement from readers. I turnover this dreaded conversation in my mind and dwell on the negative feelings my frustrations feed. What am I doing wrong? Can readers apply the content I share in their daily lives? Am I just wasting my time writing what no one will ever read? Then I am reminded of my original goal; to grow myself and share my voice. This is more for me and if someone benefits from it, great. If not, oh well. This week, let us dive into battling our frustrations when our expectations do not match reality.

Peel away the noise and possible confusion to find what really is our goal or purpose. We get caught up in insignificant details. Sometimes referred to as, getting into the weeds or muddy water. We waste tons of time with the unimportant tasks or thoughts that cause more confusion and lead our focus away from what really matters. How can you streamline your goal or dream to refrain from getting more frustrated in your confusion?

Stop feeling guilty when you cannot meet an expectation or deliver the goods. When we take on a dream or goal, we get so caught up anticipating the moment that we arrive at completion. We fail to put our dreams or goals into perspective or dare I say, a reality check. We will miss the mark, fall short, or fail in the process. That is ok and to be expected. Are you willing to change your expectations and adjust your process?

Remember the goal you are chasing is a process that you must engage in before you reach your true potential. A well-planned process to achieve a goal is necessary. We need to keep in mind that that process is continuous learning, and that learning is then compounded to allow for our goals or dreams to develop into fruition. Do you have a solid process in place to catch the valuable learning ahead of you?

We must adjust our goals, but we must never stop working and grinding out the day-to-day tasks. As we engage in the work needed to meet a goal, we will eventually find out that the goalpost has moved. Our goal has shifted and improved into something we could have never imagined. The goal has matured into a dream fulfilled, our nirvana, and we are completely happy.

What is the true essence of your goal or dream and how will you minimize the noise?

Are your expectations appropriate and detailed enough?

Are you engaged in a process or more worried about the final product?

How will you ensure you are taking steps each day to meet the goals?

No one is immune to the frustrations of not meeting our own expectations, as we chase our goals or dreams. If we go into the process of understanding this, we may not be so confused or frustrated. I have struggled with this recently, as I shared in my introductions. I hope you can see past these frustrating moments to see the big picture of your current goal. Have a wonderful week!
