How are you mentally preparing to make your next move towards a goal?
I enjoy this time of year. The role of school administrator often feels like a new start is just around the corner. What careers have that luxury to begin anew? There is a feeling of excitement and anxiousness all mixed. We evaluate what has transpired, where we fell short, and our exciting next steps towards improvement. This is the thought process each year as the school year ends. This same thought process could be applied in other areas of our lives and in different careers. It is not only an educator’s view in opportunities.
How often do we feel a sense of urgency, worry, or anxiety at the conclusion of a period in our organization? Whether we missed a mark, worry how to accomplish something, or see opportunities to better our practice. We must recognize those anxious feelings as a sign we are on the right track. Instead of seeing these moments as issues or problems to deal with, why not see them as moments of renewal? Change the perspective and see them as opportunities to add value to our organization. A change in that perspective renews our energy. Our different views and renewed energy can then be used to collaborate with others and build excitement. We are changing the overall view of how we see things and becoming excited about upcoming opportunities; a renewal.
What topics or changes are you anxious about?
Where could you add value to the coming days or year?
How will you share the excitement that surrounds a goal you are seeking?
We can all experience a reset, or a renewed energy. It is an intentional reset of how we see things in our mind. Our worries and anxiousness are the internal dialogue of improvement and change.
