Recharge

Are you taking care of yourself, and allowing time to recharge?

The summer season is upon us. With all the issues around us we might have missed it. Districts around the nation experienced a difficult end of the year with the COVID-19 pandemic and now we are experiencing large groups of protesters in many cities. These and a variety of other issues may cause stress and concern, which can be very unhealthy. Time is needed to recharge or regroup and take care of yourself.

We all experience stress and it affects us all differently. Worry and anxiety are common, but when individuals experience lack of sleep, tension headaches, high blood pressure, or sickness because of stress, they need to act. Our health is very important, and something as simple as walking each day can be of great benefit for stressed out individuals. When we are stressed, we do not preform out duties very well. It is important to be fully present at work, but when we do not feel well our work suffers. Stressors can affect us physically and mentally, and we must make specific time in our day to check on our physical and mental health.

In my realm of educational administration, I have many stressors and have met several administrators who have suffered health scares because of their jobs. The best way is to make time each day to decompress and find and outlet for your stress. If this process is acted on each day you are better off in dealing with stress. Many administrators do not always allow themselves time to do that. Instead they wait for time off in the calendar year, such as spring breaks or summer vacation to get away. Our mental or spiritual health is just as important. Whatever your beliefs are, is it being developed? Are you taking care of your mental health too?

I will be looking forward to some time off this summer. I plan to visit family for a week and take my wife and kids on a road trip. I have plans to read and relax when I can. I hope you take time to recharge your batteries and give yourself some time to just enjoy life.

How are you dealing with stress?

            Are you exercising daily?

What are you doing to develop mentally or spiritually?

What have you planned for enjoyment this summer?
