What can we do to ensure our New Year’s goal is achievable?
It is that time of year when everyone sets new goals or New Year resolutions for the coming year. I love sharing this topic because I value the drive to grow. Yet I do so cautiously because the follow through of most goals or resolutions this time of year is not statistically good. Instead, I want to focus on simple steps that can assist you in growing or moving forward towards a goal.
Friendships are so important. We need to make the relationships in our lives a priority because those relationships help us in our growth. We all have a team that surrounds us and assists us in our times of need. We can do more for ourselves with the help of our friends. Plan to reciprocate, our friends can use our help also. Who is on your team?
The evaluation of ourselves is so important and we fail to do it more often. We should not limit the evaluation of our goals at the start of a new year. We should revisit our goals and needs weekly. Sure, it is appropriate to take a big picture view of our past year to assess where we were and how far we have come. How has your past year gone and what is your next move?
Once we have established what we want, we must plan with intention. I imagine I sound like a broken record, as I speak of this often. There must be a plan. As I evaluate myself, I have discovered that I take too much on. I need to look at my goals in smaller sections or phases that I can achieve. We all can benefit by bringing our goal down to phases or benchmarks we must master before that big goal. What will you do in this moment, as you attempt to reach a larger goal?
Inevitably, we will all fail in our efforts to achieve a goal. We must refrain from becoming discouraged. It is ok to fall short, but it is never ok to quit. We must stay in the game and have a plan for the moments when we find ourselves discouraged or having a poor mindset. Our mindset is the reason many of us fall short. We have a weak moment, lose focus, and then take long pauses in our plans. Inevitably, we stop all together when these moments occur. We must have something or someone who will snap us out of this mental funk. What is your plan to avoid this from occurring?
How can your friends help you this year and how will you help them?
What are your true goals?
What is your first move today, that will help you move forward?
How do you deal with mental setbacks?
It has been a momentous year for me and my family. We have taken new steps and had new experiences. Life is good. I hope you have an impressive year and that you are looking forward to your next steps. Thanks for checking in this week and have a Happy New Year.
