Are you on course with certain goals in your organization, as well as for yourself?
Great leaders often pause and check the direction of their organization. There comes a point when it is important to right our ship and bring our focus back to what we are trying to accomplish. We may lose our focus because we get to caught up in some of the details that we lose the path. If we are truly working toward our purpose, we must continuously bring ourselves back to the path of our goals. As the leader of a school district it is very difficult to keep all the moving parts working together. My situation is no different.
In every organization there is a certain time of the year where goals are set for improvements. Plans are set in motion, tasks to achieve goals are assigned to individuals and groups. Many moving parts are put into play. The mistake we often make, is not bringing the goals to the forefront of all our conversations. We must bring the key players together as often as needed to make sure everyone is on the same page.
One process I believe in, is formation of groups or committees to put into motion specific steps or tasks that must be accomplished. This process does two things, it makes the heavy work more manageable with the help of others and it allows all stakeholders in the organization to be invested in the process. When everyone is involved, the focus is not one person’s plan but rather a group effort. We can accomplish more when we work together. These groups can also offer leaders of the organization a sounding board for ideas and a trusted group of advisors. Leading is not an easy process, as no one has all the answers to the questions that arise.
Who are your trusted advisors in your organization?
What steps are you taking to improve your organization?
Have you set specific goal for the organization and is everyone aware of them?
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family. Take this point and time to check the status of your organization’s goals as well as your goals. Set your path right and make changes, as necessary. I hope to see some of your comments this week and wish you a successful week to come.
