How do you keep your dreams and goals alive?

Our last conversation discussed the idea of having more we would like to do, a dream or a big goal. However, let’s face it, we all get busy or sidetracked. Our goals lose our attention and time slips away. It seemed appropriate to me to share a resource I have in my professional library. In his book What To Do Next: Taking Your Best Step When Life Is Uncertain, Jeff Henderson talks about the death of an idea. Admittingly, I seem to struggle with a dream, making time and following through with things. Not to mention, fear of stepping out of my comfort zone, all of which are killing my dreams. I hope this post will help you with a dream you have.

Before we waste time, we must determine whether our dream is a simple idea or a legitimate dream. We experience the death of our ideas because things get too difficult. John Maxwell always says everything worthwhile is uphill. The two points I wish to share from Mr. Henderson’s book are the Resurrection and Ascension of our ideas. We will struggle to keep our ideas and dreams alive, especially if we allow them to die because of our neglect. In other words, we must keep them in the forefront of our day and intentionally chip away at them to extend their development. This is where our ideas become resurrected and evolve. Then those ideas ascend to something more; we have found our next level of improvement. This is when we discover our ideas have developed into a dream that will become our next chapter in life. Our original idea has now ascended to something more audacious and daring. An idea bigger than us, that has the potential of improving not only our lives, but the lives of those we care about.

Have you ever given up an idea or dream, and what were the reasons?

Have you had an idea resurrected, and how has that idea changed?

How have your ideas exceeded your expectations and ascended to something better?

Are the ideas bouncing around in your mind needing to be abandoned or given time to be renewed? Are these ideas tied to a bigger dream? You may need to rethink them, resurrect them, and allow them to ascend to a grander way of life for you. An idea could lead to your next steps. I hope you find that dream you are chasing if you haven’t already. Thanks for looking in this week, and I hope you will leave a comment below that will contribute to this conversation.
