Leadership Sacrifices

What sacrifices do leaders make that improve the lives of those they lead?

It is Memorial day. The people who lost their lives to serve us all hold an incredibly special place in my heart. As we honor the men and women of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives to a cause, I am reminded the true meaning of leadership.

Leadership is all about growing a business or organization, improving the bottom line, and providing a service. When a leader accomplishes these goals, they can be seen as the reason for the success of an organization. Poor leaders will take ownership of these wins, but great leaders give these wins to the people they lead. Sometimes we miss the mark and fail to achieve the goals of our organizations. We could blame a certain department within the organization or the customers for not buying our services. All could be true, but the great leader will take on that failure and commit to improving themselves or procedures. Finally, great leaders see value in their people and the best way we can show this is to share our hearts and minds with them. For those who served this nation, isn’t that what they did? They gave their hearts and minds to their fellow service members, and the people of this nation.

How are you celebrating wins that honor your people?

How are you taking ownership of the failures that would damage morale?

How will you share your heart and mind to build trust among your people?

By no means am I giving a true comparison of the sacrifice of our troop to someone leading an organization. They are not the same. There are, however, a few common characteristics that I have shared. I hope you share your leadership principles with those you lead. Thank you for looking in on this week’s post and please leave a comment below that will add to our conversation. Thank you to the men and women of our armed forces, who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may be free.
