It’s In The Details

How can attention to details benefit you and your organization?

Have you ever said to yourself, I wish I would have thought of that, when someone does something great? Then you get critical of yourself for missing an opportunity or a moment to shine. I have learned over the years that when I have experienced this feeling, it turns out to be my ego talking. I hate that feeling of being self-absorbed, and critical of innovative ideas. Instead, I choose to celebrate when others contribute to the organization. I worry less about myself and choose to see the value that others bring to our world. I pay closer attention to details and look for opportunities to become better.

Paying attention to the little things is especially important. Of course, we may miss certain details. It is to be expected to occasionally miss things but when we miss minor details repeatedly, we get negative attention from others. These continuous oversights create larger fails. The people around us will start to depend on us less and lose all trust in our abilities over time. This is something we cannot allow and the best way to counteract this is to focus on the small things that we could take care of relatively quickly.

Another minor detail we often overlook is seeing people as blessings rather than competition. When we start seeing the remarkable things our people can offer, our organizations can be unstoppable. I never claimed to be the best leader of the organizations I have and continue to serve. There are others who know more or have better ideas than I do. Knowing this sets us on the correct path of leadership. The impact of those around us must be acknowledged and shared publicly because the good they do is often overlooked.

Stop comparing where you are to where others are on their journey in life, is another detail we fail to see. We are all on our own path and too often we compare our responses or behaviors to those of others. Everyone has different experiences that will benefit our organizations at the appropriate time. You were put in your current role for a reason; ride it out and see what comes your way. You may be astounded at the impact you will make for the people around you.

Do better for yourself and the organization you serve is a detail we must act on. Whether we are missing delicate details or extensive ideas, we must keep our focus. The value others bring and understanding our journey are key details. We must keep our foot on the gas in our leadership roles. Continuous improvement and implantation of our personal or organizational goals. Our drive determines where we end up and we must continue to make things happen.

How are you paying attention to the intricate details within your organization?

Are you seeing the people and their ideas as blessings to your organization?

Are you seeing your value to the organization you serve?

How are you making things happen and persevering through the struggles?

We are so fortunate to have the opportunities we do, as well as the people who collaborate with us. Give credit to those around you who make the greatest impact to your organization, a detail worth sharing. Thanks for your attention to this blog. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead and you can manage through the crucial details you are facing. Please leave a comment below that will contribute to this conversation.
