What gifts or skills can you offer the people in your life?
In the season of giving, there are all sorts of conversations surrounding the perfect gifts to give. We hope the gifts we give have meaning for those who receive them. What about nontraditional gifts? Something truly meaningful and not necessarily a tangible item. It got me thinking about basic things we can do for individuals in our circles. This is not an official list but a starting thought, I hope. Enjoy and have a happy Holiday season.
Gifts of the heart. John Maxwell talks of loving people unconditionally. I love that thought! If we want to make a positive impact on those around us, we must love and appreciate everyone. There is no doubt, there are people we will not necessarily warm up to but at the end of the day we must appreciate them regardless. We all have had moments when we can sense that people dislike us. I am asking that we all make this a conscious thought and effort each day.
Gifts of the mind. Our belief in others is important for them and the organizations we serve. When we feel negative towards others, sometimes our behaviors will reveal this belief. This is why we must always have a positive view of our colleagues at work and our friends. We can give the gift of seeing the value others bring. Everyone in our work environment has some untapped ideas or skills that can help the organization. Great leaders share the appreciation of everyone’s efforts.
Gifts of action. An intentional act that makes others feel special goes a long way in building trust and a sense of appreciation. When we take the energy to buy someone a coffee or send a thank you card, the positive impact is huge. These small gestures make others feel special. We do not necessarily need to make grand efforts for people, simple acts of kindness will do. Take small steps that show you appreciate those around you.
Gifts of our skills or abilities. We all have special talents or skills that may benefit others if we apply them in certain situations. When we can offer someone our knowledge or expertise to complete or assist in a task, we have truly given them something they needed in that moment. Maybe you can help another person with a small process that makes their work easier or you may know how to complete another item for them more efficiently. Whatever you can do to assist others in their day-to-day work will foster a great working relationship and could end up helping you later with something you need.
How do you show that you appreciate and care for people in your world?
How are you showing people you believe in them?
What actions will you take today that could be a gift to someone?
What skills could you provide and how will those help someone special?
We all have gifts to share with one another. The best gifts are always the ones that bring happiness and joy to those that receive them. I hope you get the opportunity to share your gifts with family and friends this Holiday Season. Thank you for looking in on this post this week. Please leave a comment below that will add to this conversation and have a glorious Holiday season with your family.
