What are you doing with the experiences you had today, this week, or this month?
In my last post, we discussed the words we say to ourselves, living with a positive perspective, and investing in our growth each day. These thoughts propel our growth, and we start making decisions and acting. These actions must be followed up with reflection and understanding, if we want to grow and develop the dreams we continue to chase. Taking time to learn from experiences helps us develop routines which make us better. Along the way, we can celebrate what we learned and gained throughout our days and weeks.
Why is reflecting on experiences so important? I am not great at this skill. Yes, it is a skill to reflect on experience. This is why people write a journal daily. When we take an experience and pull out the learning nuggets, we can develop ourselves much faster. We build upon those experiences and create additional opportunities. The growth we gain isn’t always seen in the moment. Over time, those learning nuggets compound, allowing us to become a better version of ourselves.
Do you have enough want to, in you to grow and become better? When we really desire to improve, we will do everything in our power to create opportunities to grow. It ultimately comes down to wanting something bad enough for yourself. Daily, we must make the appropriate choices to be better than we were yesterday. We must want to grow, change, and be better tomorrow.
It is easy to celebrate when things go well, but isn’t celebrating our failures just as important? How often have we had a poor experience or interaction that made us feel we failed? Why did that situation go wrong? Somewhere in that moment or interaction, learning occurs. Celebrate when we win and celebrate when we discover why something didn’t meet our expectations. That discovery is key to your improvement, and will allow you to catch that dream of yours.
How do you choose to reflect on the experiences of each week?
What do your daily rituals say about you and your future?
How do you celebrate your successes and failures?
I am hoping to develop myself this week. The experiences I had, both positive and negative, allowing me to grow in my personal development and leadership. I will take the reflections of these experiences and change my day-to-day rituals to maximize any learning I discovered. Celebrations of my learning will also take place. I hope you have an opportunity to reflect on key experiences you have. Thanks for checking in this week, and please leave a comment below to share some of your reflections in growth.
