Can you visualize your dream and the steps to achieve it?
Last week, I shared the enthusiasm I saw in my wife as she explores an area of interest. It was so refreshing to see when someone is excited and passionate about something. As an educator, I have countless stories of the fire ignited in the eyes of some of my students. Little kids are the best when they experience doing or learning something new. We experience the same excitement when we learn or achieve things as adults. As I was thinking about this topic, it made me evaluate what I am passionate about. It just so happens; I can also relate it to a book I am currently reading. Put Your Dream to The Test: 10 Questions to Help You See It and Seize It, by John C. Maxwell. In his book Maxwell explains the ten questions that help us see our dreams clearly. So, it got me thinking, what the heck is my dream?
Clearly, I am unable to hide the fact that I love books on leadership or personal development. If you are an avid reader of my blog, you know this to be true. My dream is centered around the idea of helping people grow and develop. I wish to help people improve some aspect of their life. In 2017 I went to a Tony Robbins event and it changed my life. After this event, I started looking into Life Coaching. Next year I will attend a John Maxwell event which will certify me as a member of the John Maxwell Team. Currently, I am exploring what it takes to be a certified Life Coach and I am speaking with an organization who would assist me in the process by training me. I have also visited with a friend who is a certified performance coach. This is my dream unfolding before my eyes. I have taken steps to achieve this dream. Am I where I want to be yet? Not even close, but I am working on it.
As I read, Put Your Dream to The Test: 10 Questions to Help You See It and Seize It, it made me truly look at my dream. In the introduction and leading chapter Mr. Maxwell is asking if I know my dream and whether it is even mine. It also offers a quiz that assesses my intended dream. I have discovered that I have some work to do to achieve my dream. I have some hard questions I will need to answer. Maxwell goes on to share common excuses used while people explore their dreams. I have experienced moments where I made excuses. I always blamed the lack of time or money and even blamed my family commitments were interfering. The first step in this process is to understand whether their dream is their own and to ask if they are truly chasing their passions. Next, we need to ask ourselves if we clearly see our dreams?
Seeing our dreams clearly in our minds is one thing, but actionable steps are what make a difference. The start to this process is very specific. Maxwell talks about taking our general thoughts that revolve around our dreams and make them more specific. This brings clarity and potential steps toward our dreams. It gives us direction and forces us to act. We then see what we are passionate about and we can then set steps we need to take toward our dreams.
Are you working on your dreams?
Are your dreams just dreams, or something that brings you passion?
What is holding you back from achieving your dreams?
Many things can stir in us and awaken a dream. The big difference in people is whether they choose to go after it or just keep dreaming. I hope you are not just dreaming. I hope you choose to act and fulfill your dreams. Instead, you need to go after it and take steps to get where you want to be. Join me in the next few posts as we look at our dreams and how we can achieve them. Please leave a comment below and tell me all about your dreams. Have a great week friends!
