Advising Future Leaders

What advice can we share with our future leaders to ensure their success?

It is that time of the year when students from around the country graduate from high school. They are full of enthusiasm as they begin their next steps in life. There is so much we could share with these graduates, but it is difficult to offer the best advice for everyone. My advice to future leaders is something I wish I would have known fully when I graduated. Turns out, it is not rocket science but rather simple points we could all benefit from.

The first piece of advice I would share has to do with our daily attitude. Having the right attitude each day is a choice. It is not an easy choice, however. Showing up each day in the right mindset is easier said than done. My second piece of advice for future leaders is to show gratitude in every situation. Whether we want to admit it or not, there are lessons everywhere, even in times of difficulty. We grow as individuals and in our leadership through the experiences we have. We must be thankful for those experiences. My final piece of advice for future leaders is to remember those who support us. We all have people in our lives who are in our corner no matter what. Their honest assessment of our actions and behaviors pushes us to be better each day. These are the people who lift us up and encourage us to keep moving. Each of these points were things I wish I would have known better in my youth.

How does our attitude help or hinder our leadership growth?

How can showing gratitude in every situation help our leadership?

How do our support systems help us develop our leadership skills?

By no means do I have all the potential advice for our future leaders. I am confident there are others who could offer better information. I hope you get an opportunity to share your advice with the future leaders of your communities. Thank you for checking in with Leading Conversations this week.
