The Slide

What thoughts or actions help you avoid sliding into a negative mindset?

It is quite easy to slip into a negative mindset. It only takes one bad interaction for that slide to occur. One must be strong mentally and emotionally. Simple thoughts and/or actions keep us in the right frame of mind. I find myself struggling with this as a leader. Leadership isn’t always fun. Much of what leaders deal with are when something goes wrong, and someone is upset with us or the organizations we lead. Don’t get me wrong, of course there are good experiences as well. Leadership requires us to be strong, and positive, among all the chaos. This post is a reminder of what we can control within ourselves, to remain strong and positive in our minds.

Encouragement is an excellent example of how we can stay in a powerful mindset. If we ask ourselves how we feel when someone shares anything positive to us or about us, we feel lighter and happier. How often are you encouraging yourself? We must be our biggest fan, and speak positively about our efforts. Who we follow and pay attention to, also contributes to our positive mindsets. John Maxwell is my guy, and I consume any content he puts out into the world. If we take in negative news or negative posts on Facebook, we too become negative. I have said it often, consume things that are positive and grow in goodness. However, everything isn’t positive, and yes, we will have bad days and deal with bad situations. When we train ourselves to show Gratitude in every situation, we can take control of the story that plays in our minds by focusing on the good. Sliding into negativity is easy, and takes a lot of work to avoid it. Acknowledge that, and be intentional with your thoughts and actions.

Are you encouraging yourself and others?

What positive leaders are you following and why?

What good have you noticed in your life today?

Encouragement, consuming positive content, and showing gratitude for what we have, builds a powerful and positive mind and soul.            We must train ourselves to follow these simple procedures, and I guarantee you will find true happiness.
