A Little Help

What gifts or experience do you have that can support others?

You are exactly what someone needs today. You have a gift or an experience that makes you an expert for someone. You could be a lifeline for some trouble a friend is experiencing. The trouble is you don’t even know it. This week during a moment, it occurred to me that I might just have what it takes to deal with and correct a situation from ever occurring again. I never give myself credit for my experiences. How often do we do that, see a situation as a problem and never believe in our ability to fix it?

What you see and experience is not always reality. If you are experiencing doubt or frustration with something you are working on, you may not be seeing the gift this opportunity is. How often do we have experiences that mimic failure at some level? We feel we have come to the end of a run and there is no sign we will reach our goal. We are quick to admit defeat and call it quits but then we experience a different view. Maybe, just maybe, we have the know how to be a savior in this very moment. Before we give up on the initiative or task, it occurs to us that we have exactly what is needed to achieve the desired results.           

Engage in the hard questions and the difficult work that will be necessary to tackle the task causing us doubt. It is easy to put off the work that must be done when we lack the appropriate directions. Leadership must ask hard questions and do what is necessary to find the resources to achieve the goals of the organization.          This is how leaders can help; be willing to ask hard questions and engage in difficult conversations.

Once the leadership has determined the needs of the organization, he or she must check in with the needs of the individuals of the organization. When our organizations work on initiatives, we do not always see how those initiatives affect the people or make their jobs more difficult. It is vital that we evaluate how we work together on the tasks and help each other achieve success.          

To truly help those around us we must take time to check in and assess further needs. We answer tough questions, supply the needed resources, and meet individual’s needs. That is almost enough. Checking back in with everyone and seeing that what was addressed is still working or has it simply uncovered additional needs?           

How can you see past doubt to find an opportunity?          

What must be considered to achieve those difficult tasks? 

What do the people in your organization need right now?

When was the last time you checked in with your people? 

Providing help to those around you is not a hard task. Sometimes all it takes is check-in and let them know you are there if they need you. Every great leader must value his or her people and lend a hand when it is necessary. I hope you find a way to help those around you this week.
