Big Dreams

Does your dream fulfill a purpose and help others achieve more?

I have reached a major milestone both professionally and personally. I am now a Maxwell Leadership Certified Team Member. For years I have consumed as many of John Maxwell’s books as I could. I never thought I would have an opportunity to attend an International Maxwell Certification event. The past few days have been overwhelming and my mind is swirling with information. I wanted to take an opportunity to share a few highlights I was able to internalize over three days of intense learning. I walked away from this conference with more motivation and an even bigger dream.

We must dare ourselves to dream! When I was very small, I remembered playing school with a cousin of mine. Never realizing this would someday become true. Over time I realized my dream was to become a teacher, so I went for it. That dream has grown larger in recent years, and I was reminded of this as I attended this conference. Asking ourselves if our dreams are big enough was a central focus from one of the presenters. This made me question where I was headed. Not sure where it originated from or if I am writing it correctly, but the phrase; shoot for the moon and if you fail, you’ll end up in the stars, comes to mind. How often do we make a commitment to a dream, achieve it, and stop right there?  In a round about way, this was a question asked of me this week. I believe, we have dreams that could be so much more then our ability to create them in our minds. We must ask ourselves to think deeper as we chase our dreams. We all have a purpose for our lives, and many of us are trying to understand what or how to achieve it.

Have the courage to ask for what you want! Throughout my career if I wanted something that would make me better, I would ask for it. If there was something that would build my organization, I would ask why not? Leaders see opportunities to make life and their organizations better. It takes a lot of courage to ask for a commitment to growth and improvement for yourself and the organization you lead. At times there is a fear of asking for something. This fear revolves around receiving a negative response or a no. However, there is another negative aspect around not asking for what is needed. If there are opportunities to grow yourself or an organization, we must act on them. Failure to act on opportunities could cause you or your organization’s productivity to be less than what is expected. This is unacceptable!

Act on a designed plan and create opportunities to achieve the dream! We all made things happen for ourselves that aligned with our dreams and it more than likely revolves around our career paths. Our dreams, like our careers need a plan too. We educated ourselves to meet our career plans, so it makes perfect sense to create opportunities that help us grow our dreams. This is the chase that gives us enthusiasm for a cause bigger than ourselves, our purpose. This is where big dreams become reality!

What direction have your dreams taken you and is your dream big enough?

What could you ask for, that would assist you in achieving a dream or purpose?

Have you created a plan or procedure that helps you achieve your dreams?

What opportunities are you capitalizing on that allow you to chase a dream?

I am so excited for the future! My dream to teach has evolved into coaching others, and it is developing nicely. I learned that I have much more to give and achieve as I chase a dream that aligns with my life’s purpose of adding value to others. I hope you have the chance to continue to work on achieving your plan, whatever that may entail. Life is exciting and meaningful! I wish you a wonderful week and thanks for checking in. Now, go execute your plans and chase future goals.
