Are you taking time to reassess goals or your trajectory?
It is no secret I discuss goals and personal growth often. Something has occurred to be in recent weeks, or has developed over the course of the past months? Not sure, but I have been preoccupied by my daily writing routines and how that is planned out in my schedule. I purchased two-month planners that had a set of morning questions that would take me some time to complete and I would not always hit my goal on those. I chose this planner routine in the hopes to develop my writing and reflecting and how my schedule related to this goal. What I discovered it did not work. So instead of a lot of reflective questions I chose a different planner that had fewer questions and was reduced to a 13-week timeframe. This time I have chosen to focus on three goals. Without going into detail, I have chosen to focus on my Mindfulness, Personal growth, and my writing. Originally, I put too much emphasis on a process for daily planning and scheduling. I believe I took on too many processes. Now, I have three goals for myself and with that I am trying this new 13-week planner to see if I can truly hit my targets. In essence I needed to reassess my goals and the trajectory I was headed in.
So where are you in your current path to your goals? I hope you have reached some or all of them. This week I felt it was interesting for me to share my insights on reevaluating what processes you are using to hit your targets. We do this so often as leaders, we jump in with a plan we feel will work for our situations. We always make sure we do not put too many goals in front of our people because we do not want to discourage them in any way. We must give ourselves the same compassion by picking and choosing what works. When something is not working for you, it is ok to abandon it and take another path. This is the most effective way to change your trajectory towards your goals.
I am an all-in kind of guy. When something looks interesting and effective, I just jump in and try. This is a great mindset at times, but it can also be a huge waste of time. In the search for growth a development of ourselves we can get carried away with the processes we choose. We are not alone in this endeavor, many other leaders in a variety of fields have done or tried other processes we may be currently trying. We should be able to overcome this self-inflicted confusion when we adopt processes by seeking other people’s views and ideas. No matter what type of organization you currently lead, you should be able to find individuals who can assist you on your trajectory. Be willing to seek out these people and bounce your ideas and goals off them and get their views on what works best for them. Give yourself permission to ask for help with your goals and plans, it will eliminate you, wasting your time.
Do you have a process you are currently using that is not helping you achieve goals?
Who in your field of employment has great ideas and could offer you support?
Have you given yourself permission to change your trajectory by abandoning something?
I just had to share my experience in reassessing my planned trajectory. I always say, I have ideas, but they might not always seem like great ideas to everyone; yet I have them. I hope you are on the right path to your plans, and I hope you have a set schedule of routines to reach your goals. Best of luck to you all. Have a great week, and I look forward to you leaving your comments below.
