Habits

What daily routines are you trying to form into life-changing habits?

We all have habits that are both positive and negative. If you are like me, you tend to put to much focus on your bad habits. I set daily routines that end up becoming habits. Much of our personal growth comes from habits we have created. I know I have bad habits, but the point this week is to focus on how we can create opportunities for improvement by changing some routines into habits that benefit us. One habit I have created and have been doing for years is paying bills on Sunday. Like clockwork I lay all my bills out and schedule each payment on a monthly calendar. I did this to avoid late bills, but why can’t I do this for other things? How can I make some habits stick and other I fail to reach success?

One goal I have created was this blog, but now it is a habit as I set it to a schedule and look ahead at ideas I want to express. Writing is another routine that I have yet to form as a habit. What I have found, is I am not setting the stage for this habit to be successful. We need to control our surroundings and make them conducive to improving our habits. If I want to improve on any habit it must be a scheduled task each day. The environment must be right for these tasks. If I want to be a great writer someday, I must have a place and time where my focus is on the task of writing. Anyone can form life-changing habits if they make it a meaningful task that is also a must do each day.

Another step in forming habits is to start small. I will be completely honest that I do not always follow my own advice. I have many ideas, and initiatives that fail because I cannot seem to follow through or it is too much all at once. I have not taken steps to form these tasks into habits. Starting small can improve these tasks and allow you to form habits over time. Take my writing for example, if I set a timer to write one sentence or paragraph about my day, I have set a little habit. Then this little habit will grow over the course of days, weeks, and months. Before you know it, the habit is solidified and happens daily without even thinking about it.

What tasks are you doing that can form into daily habits?

What environment have you created to establish positive habits?

Can you identify small tasks that will help you in your habit development?

These two steps will allow you success in creating life-changing habits. To reach your life-changing habits, remember to control your surrounding environment and start small. We all create certain habits, but we want to create habits that help us on our journey. I hope you have an opportunity to evaluate some of your habits or develop new ones. Please leave your comment below and I hope you have a great week.
