#2 Finding Joy

Where do you find joy in your career?

As an educator, I can easily say I always found joy working with students that struggle academically or emotionally. In my many years of classroom teaching, I always felt I was good at building positive relationships with my students. This relationship allowed my students to feel comfortable around me. Now that I have gone into Administration these moments occur less and have changed. That joy that I experienced has moved to my teachers. I have found a new joy when I’m able to help teachers talk through various issues or concern within their classrooms. I get very enthusiastic when they ask for my advice on something they’re dealing with.

At times it is difficult to find joy especially, during this time of COVID-19. It’s there somewhere, and we must be intentional in looking for it. Every school district was thrusted into this new and uncharted territory of teaching long distance and online. As always, teachers stepped-up and delivered. The joy lies in the passion of our teachers across the nation, who want nothing more to see their students grow and be successful. We witness this in our district each day of this pandemic. Don’t dwell on the stress of any situation, but rather look for the silver lining in everything. Trust me it’s there.

Are you actively looking for the joy every day? Can you help others see the joy?
